TRANSCRIPT:
Hey Folks,

It’s Dr. Gerstmar from Aspire Natural Health, and in this quick video, we’re going to talk about an almost unknown cause of IBS and brain dysfunction. While we learned about it very briefly at medical school, it was considered so rare and unusual it pretty much never came up again.

So if you’ve been battling IBS, and brain dysfunction – whether that’s anxiety, depression, or brain fog – and you’ve been checked for or tried the usual culprits, and you haven’t gotten relief, then this is something you’re going to want to pay attention to?

Are you ready?

Okay. Today we’re talking about your parathyroid glands.

Never heard of them? No worries. Almost no one has.

You know your thyroid, the gland in your neck that controls your metabolism. Well the word para- means next to. So your parathyroid glands are next to your thyroid in your neck. And while the thyroid controls metabolism, the parathyroid helps control the amount of calcium in your blood.

Most of us think of calcium and bone health, which is true, but calcium does a lot more than just keep our bones healthy.

Calcium is necessary for all the cells of our body to work properly. And it’s what we call a Goldilocks mineral.

2 Minute Quiz – Are We the Right Fit to Help You?

You remember the story of Goldilocks and the three bears right? The porridge was too hot, too cold, and just right. The bed was too hard, too soft, and just right.

Well it’s the same with calcium. There’s too much, too little, and just right. And both too much and too little can cause serious, serious problems in the body.

When the parathyroid hormones are working properly they keep the level of calcium in that Goldilocks zone of just right and things work properly. If the parathyroid glands stop working calcium can fall too low. This is very rare. More common is when the parathyroid glands are overactive which causes the body to keep too much calcium in the blood.

And that’s a problem, let me tell you why.

First off that calcium has to come from somewhere and the parathyroid tells your body to take it from your bones. That can lead to osteoporosis and eventually bone breaks.

The calcium can cause things like kidney stones and arthritis in the joints.

That high level of calcium in the blood will also just generally cause someone to feel tired, have muscle pains, and just plain feel crappy.

Digestively that high calcium will cause people to have IBS, bloating, nausea, and constipation.

And as far as your brain that high level of calcium can cause anxiety, depression, and brain fog.

So there you have it…

Is this something everyone immediately needs to go out and get tested?

No.

There’s a medical saying, “If you hear hoofbeats, think horses not zebras.” What that means is if you hear hoofbeats it’s most likely it’s a horse and not a zebra. Always start by checking for the common things first, and then if it’s not those things move on to the more uncommon or rare things.

So if you’re tired, or have brain fog, or IBS, there are other more common, much more likely reasons you have those issues.

But if you’ve been checked out and you don’t have those issues. Or you’ve tried the common effective treatments for things like IBS and not gotten the help you’re looking for, checking for a parathyroid problem, may uncover the cause of what’s going on for you.

How is it checked?

A regular blood test that any doctor can order. And there are two tests that need to be looked at together. The first is the level of calcium in your blood. And the second is the amount of parathyroid hormone, called PTH, that’s in your blood. Doctors use that combination of those two tests to identify whether or not you have a parathyroid problem.

If you suspect you might have a parathyroid problem, ask your doctor to run these two tests and find out. Or if your doctor won’t over them or has no idea what to do with them, please find a better doctor for you.
