The Health Scale – Why you get sick, or don’t

Hey Folks,

It’s Dr. Gerstmar from Aspire Natural Health, and in this quick video, I want to share with you a simple but very profound concept we use with the people we help that has a profound impact on helping them understand why they either stay healthy or get sick.

Are you ready for it?

We call it the health scale or the health balance.

I want you to see one of those old-time scales, also called a balance. It’s got a wooden or metal arm across the top, a pivot point in the middle and two pans which are connected to the arm across the top with chains. You put weight on one side and it goes down and the other side goes up. If the weight on both sides is about the same, the scale will sit even.

Can you see it in your mind?

If not, stop the video, and just quickly Google antique balance scale and you’ll get a picture. Don’t worry, we’ll wait here for you.

Alright, now that we’re all on the same page about what we’re talking about, we’ve got this scale.



Now in the one pan we’re going to load all the factors that promote inflammation in our bodies or knock us out of balance – there are many possibilities, but we can look at a few things like poor food choices, high stress levels, having a messed up gut, chronic infections, hormonal imbalances, and so on and so forth.

Now on the other side, we’re going to load all the factors that reduce inflammation in our bodies and help them to balance out and health – such as a nutrient dense diet that is appropriate for our bodies and our situations, high quality sleep, rest & rejuvenation, being nutrient rich – having all the nutrition our bodies want and need, and therapeutic substances like herbs that can help to balance out our systems.

With that understanding, we can se that our health will begin to decline and break down, sooner or later, if the pan of inflammation promoters and imbalance is heavier than the pan of inflammation reducers and balancers. The more we tilt to the side of inflammation and imbalance the sooner or more severe our issues are going to be.

To heal we have to remove ‘weight’ from the imbalance side, and put ‘weight’ on the balance side.

To stay healthy and in maintenance, once we’ve don a lot of our healing work we have to ensure that that ‘healthy’ side of the scale is AT LEAST even with the ‘sickness’ side of the scale if not a little bit heavier.

Why do we have flares of autoimmunity, or find that health issues are creeping back? It’s because our scale has tipped back toward imbalance and inflammation.

Ideally for long-term health and well-being each of us is doing regular check-in’s with ourselves to see what our scale of health looks like. Are our health habits slipping? Are the inflammation promoters growing in our lives? If so, and we let that keep going, than sooner or later we’re going to have an issue.

Or if we find that our health is beginning to decline, than we can take action ourselves, or we can connect with our health team – who hopefully we’re staying in touch with and who are keeping an eye on things with us – and get their help to get things rebalanced.

So there you have it…



A very simple, but incredibly profound picture, the health scale, that can help you make sense of why you will ultimately stay healthy or get sick.

If your life is weighted towards the factors that promote inflammation and imbalance, than sooner or later, things will breakdown and you WILL get sick.

To heal, you have to take “weight” off the inflammation side and put “weight” into the balance side. And to stay healthy we need to at least keep the two sides level with one another, and ideal keep the side of health just a little bit heavier than the side of sickness.
