Update on my mom – #2

Note: This is a part of a series of posts about DrG’s parents, who both suffered from and ultimately passed away from serious health conditions – his mom from multiple myeloma, and his dad from complications from a severe stroke. Over the course of their illnesses, he put up these posts. DrG thought about removing them, but ultimately decided to leave them up in the hopes that they would help other people.

Unfortunately my mom’s back in the hospital.

Late last night due to steadily increasing pain she was transferred back to the hospital. Concerned the surgical wound in her leg was infected they brought her back into surgery this morning and reopened everything.

I’m still not totally clear on what they found, as getting in touch with a doctor at the hospital is darn hard! But everything seemed to go okay, and she’s resting reasonably comfortably now. They’ve started her on some hard core IV antibiotics (vancomycin) while they wait to see what the infection is.

Good news, bad news

We don’t have to worry about an early discharge right now, though it looks like we’ll be spending Christmas in the hospital.

Any good thoughts / well-wishes / prayers / positive energy for her are appreciated.

I’ll keep you informed as things progress, but hopefully we’re done with complications, at least for a while.
