I was talking with a new patient the other day, and one of her biggest irritations was information overload. This is a story we hear repeated, virtually every day.
She wants to lose some weight (many of the people we’re working with on digestive or autoimmune issues, we also help to lose some weight).
One of her friends told her to do X, another to do Y, another to do Z. She was sick of advice from well meaning friends, rows of books offering different and conflicting information, and websites peddling secret cures.
Are you feeling this way too?
The honest truth is that there’s a good chance you already know what to do. You probably don’t need more information.
Want to get healthier? Lose weight? Make other changes? Follow these 4 steps.
Step 1 Are you confused?
Honestly ask yourself do you know what you need to do?
If you don’t, if you really are confused about what’s going on and what to do about, then get some help. Find someone you trust, who sounds reasonable and makes sense, to you to help guide you. If the first person you seek out is telling you things that don’t make sense, find another person.
Note not making sense is different than someone telling you something you know to be true but you don’t want to hear. If someone tells you that weight loss is a process that’s going to take time and involve work on your part, that’s true. Sorry.
If someone tells you that you can lose 50lbs in 3 days in your sleep. Run!
Step 2 Use the information
So you’ve either looked inside yourself and realized you already know what to do to solve your problems or you’ve found someone to give you some information that makes sense to you.
The next step is, DO IT! At this point you do not need to keep searching or talking with Dr. Google and looking for more or different answers. More info will only confuse you. You have the info, put it to use.
This is why I’ve brought health coaching into Aspire Natural Health. Health coaching is all about helping people IMPLEMENT. If you know what to do, but aren’t doing what you need to do, let’s talk about health coaching.
Send us an email right now at firstname.lastname@example.org and put ‘Find out more about health coaching’ in the subject line. We’ll chat and see if it’s the right choice for you.
Step 3 Assess results
So you’ve been using the info that you have. You’ve given it a reasonable amount of time. For weight loss a minimum of 30 days, most likely 2-3 months. Are you getting results?
Step 4- Make changes, or not
If yes, you do not need to look for more information at this time, just keep going.
If no, then you need to consider what to do. Have you been following your information reasonably? Be honest with yourself. If you haven’t, then you can’t really know whether it will work for you or not. Go back to step 2 and try again. If you have, then something isn’t right for you.
Go back to Step 1 and gather information to make some changes. Don’t get stuck in Step 1, but find the info you need to make some changes, the repeat Steps 2-4.
In my clinical experience, people who do not follow these steps do not get the results they are looking for. If things haven’t been working for you, are you information grazing instead of acting?
Gather information enough, but not too much. Commit to action. Assess results. Make changes if needed. Keep going.
At Aspire Natural Health we are experts at helping people suffering with digestive issues and autoimmunity.
